Finish
Foil, Spot UV and Soft Touch change the appearance or feel of the label.
Function
Variable Data and Security Labels are about what the label needs to do, not just how it looks.
The two can overlap. A functional label may still use a finish if the selected material and configuration support it.
Foil or metallic material?
Foil
Foil is applied to selected parts of the artwork. The rest of the label can remain on a standard material.
Metallic Material
Gold Metallic and Silver Metallic start with a reflective metallic base. The material itself creates the metallic surface.
If you only want selected details to reflect, start with Foil Labels. If you want the metallic surface to be part of the base material, compare Gold Metallic and Silver Metallic.
See the difference in the finish
Foil, Spot UV and Soft Touch react to light differently. Seeing them under the same lighting makes the difference easier to understand.
Start with the material, then add the finish
The material is the stock your label is printed on. Foil, Spot UV and lamination are added when the selected material and configuration support them.
